This game has the ability to keep arm chair generals entertained ad infinatum. at just the right moment to keep your line from breaking. Hide your cavalry in the woods on your enemies flank and then CHARGE. Line of sight is critical for artillery and archers. True - the AI in the campaign mode may not always be the Napolean we wished it were. But, where else can you set up a custom made battle, choose troops from countless different armies, fight the battle, then replay the recorded battle, zooming to ground level, hearing the screams and watching the bodies fly as the enemy's artillery blows holes in the advancing lines, actually feeling the explosions (if you have a decent subwoofer) - and the graphics are truly eye-watering (especially when that clod of earth hits you). The various terrain options test your skill at troop placement - and it DOES make a difference.
The faction management, battlefield tactics, Crusades, Jihads, sieges, characters, religion, the Black Plague, and much more are all intertwined in a very accurate and thus realistic fashion giving a player that realistic feel of the Middle Ages.Aside from excellent gameplay, the game itself has no bugs or glitches, runs incredibly smooth, but is big in a sense of disc space it takes up (about 11gb).Overall, I was very happy to purchase this game, incredibly fun and worth the money. BUY IT. Huge armies with hundreds of units all unique to their own nations and the total war concept is what appealed to me the most. The other major factor that I found to be a great aspect of the game is that it is very realistic. It is up there at the top with Age of Empires, Lords of the Realm, Rise of Nations, and Civilization. This game is hands down one of the best strategy games I have ever played. The beauty of this game is that it combines graphics, gameplay, replay-ability, and fun all into one awesome game. In all other games before this one, excluding the other Total War games, did not have the massive armies all on one battlefield, this obviously detracted from the experience.
i love this game and i am happy i could get it for so cheap
Stunning graphics, excellent game style and learning curve. SO awesme, play a King and lay waste to your enemies. If you dig strategy and tactics this is your game
This bumps my rating down to 4.This is probably going to be shorter than some of my reviews that I'll eventually get to writing, but that's because I can just sum it up that it's a great game and so was Rome: Total War.Hugs & Chocolates,Me. You can't just assume that the Byzantine Empire didn't have some leader that could have you do some missions so you're not just selecting a building to build and hitting the "Next-Turn" button over and over again until you decide to attack someone. Another thumbs-up would be the battle system. One to replace the disc I scratched and another to throw out the window and yell "That's one of the best games you can get ever." just to see who would pick it up and find out I was telling the truth. It has a great way of giving you the occasional history lesson. The units are also historically accurate.A thumbs-down, though, was lack of having systems in the other nations.
That also remained the same, sadly. A nicely fitting sequel to Rome: Total War, it's pretty much the same. The game was based on you shaping the history of Europe/Northern Africa/Asia Minor, but it does have the occasional event that is completely accurate. It hasn't changed that much from Rome: Total War, keeping it in a nicer, more user-friendly way. I find it to be a great game with a couple of need-to-fix things. Of course.
A first thumbs-up would be the historical content. Although, they took away my elephants by removing the "oliphaunt" cheat, but I'll have to make do.
